Utilise your off-peak power – How to set Time of Use on your Sofar Hybrid inverter

Do you have free power or off-peak power that you would like to utilise more effectively? Did you know that you can program your Sofar hybrid inverter to charge from the grid in the evening or overnight when you have cheaper power?

FYI – if you have an AlphaESS system, it is even easier to do this directly in your app!

In the main interface (shown above), press the “BACK” arrow to enter the main menu. The main menu has the following options:

Select “1. Basic Settings”

Select “3. Energy Storage Mode”, press the ENTER arrow to enter energy storage mode setting interface.

Select “2. Set Time-of-use Mode”, and then press the ENTER arrow to enter Set Time-of-use mode interface.

Setting Time of Use

If your electricity is more expensive in high demand time (peak) and cheaper in low demand time (off-peak), you can select an off-peak period to charge your battery from the grid.

Outside of the off-peak charge period, your HYD-ES inverter is working in Auto Mode. If you have Contact Energy’s 3 hours of free power, or if you have free power weekends, you can store some cheap (or free) electricity to consume when rates are higher.

You can also select effective dates for Time of Use mode too. Outside the effective date, your HYD-ES inverter is working in Auto Mode. You can set multiple Time of Use rules to meet your more complex requirement. Your inverter supports 4 rules currently (rule 0/1/2/3).
